Juvenile Girls 2010 Provincial Champions |
The Brampton Warriors girls juvenile girls team went into the season with a lot of promise because they had some key players return from last season. With a few new additions, they thought they would be contending for the championships. All season long the girls geled together well but lost in the championship game of all 5 tournaments that they entered. Going into their provincial championships, they were ranked #2. In their round robin play, they defeated the #11 ranked team in Windsor 46-30 then beat #8 Welland 59-36 and lastly, beat #5 YAAACE 51-35 to make them undefeated and put them in the semifinal vs. #3 London. After being up all game, Brampton held on for a 53-50 win. Going into the finals Brampton had to play a tough team, Sault Titans from Ste. Sault Marie, who knocked off the #1 team in the province. But with smothering defence led by Mary Asare, Brampton easily won 44-33 to claim the division 1 championship. This team was led by Cassandra Edwards, Kayla Davis, Jose-Ann Johnson and Teleshia Riley that will also be playing in the rising star all-star game being held at Seneca College on Saturday May 15th. A special thanks goes out to the coaches of the Brampton Warriors, Head Coach Hugh Riley, Assistant Coaches Alisha and Patrick Tatham and Jason Harris. |
